KOZHIKODE: Kozhikode Medical College removed a tumor weighing more than 10 kg from the stomach of a young woman who came with abdominal pain. A 43-year-old woman from Malappuram, Munniyur, had a uterine tumor removed through complex surgery under the guidance of the gynecology department of the medical college. The 36 cm long and 33 cm wide uterine fibroid was successfully removed in a 3-hour surgery. The young woman's health status, who is in intensive care after the surgery, is satisfactory. Health Minister Veena George congratulated the entire team who led the surgery.

A week ago, the woman visited Kozhikode Medical College's Gynecology Department with abdominal pain. Apart from a swollen stomach, no other symptoms were observed. Ultrasound, MRI scans, and other tests confirmed it was a uterine tumor. The surgery was complicated due to the tumor's high blood flow. The blood vessels to the uterus were sutured at the beginning of the surgery to prevent bleeding. Although blood was collected in anticipation of bleeding, it wasn't required. The surgery was a complete success.

The surgery was performed by a team of specialists including Dr. Santosh Kuriakos, Dr. Ammu Mohan, Dr. Aishwarya Gautam, and Dr. Anjana from the Gynecology Department Cancer Specialist, along with Dr. Binu Sajid and Dr. Sonu SA from the Department of Anesthesia. Staff Nurse Saritha CS and Sijimol George, along with Nursing Assistant Ashokan V.K., also played crucial roles. Dr. Jyoti Ramesh Chandran, Head of the Gynecology Department, supervised the surgery.
