NEW DELHI: Railways has limited the quantity of water supplied to passengers in Vande Bharat Express trains. Earlier, one litre of bottled water was given, but it has been reduced to half a litre. Railways informed that the decision was taken in view of severe summer and water scarcity. The decision was made considering the fact that many people waste more than half of a litre of water after buying it.
Most people travel short distances, so they often don't need a liter of water. Water is provided free of charge in Vandebharat as part of the higher ticket price. Meanwhile, those who ask for water after using half a litre of water will be given another 500ml bottle. The railway authorities informed that this water will be free of charge.
This move has also been implemented in Shatabdi trains. Passengers travelling on Shatabdi will also get a 500ml bottle. Central Railway uses recycled water to clean coaches and platforms as part of promoting water conservation. Around one crore liters of water is recycled daily through 32 recycling plants.
