THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The petitioner, Mathew Kuzhalnadan failed to substantiate the alleged illegal rewards purportedly given to the Chief Minister and his daughter by CMRL. He couldn't provide clear answers to the Vigilance Court's inquiries. The court is set to deliver its ruling on the petition on the 6th. Special Vigilance Court Judge MV Rajakumara presided over the case.
The court questioned how the allegations in the petition would fall under the Prevention of Corruption Act. After Kuzhalnadan submitted four additional documents, including a report from the revenue principal secretary and the district collector favouring CMRL, the court heard arguments yesterday. Other documents included an order from the government to prevent the loss of surplus land held by KMERL, a directive from the Union Ministry of Geosciences and Land Exploration in 1999 to revoke mining permits of private individuals and Cabinet Minutes discussing CMRL's application.
However, vigilance prosecutor RL Ranjithkumar argued that despite the favorable report, the Land Board rejected CMRL's application and the minutes indicated that legal advice should be sought from the Advocate General. Even when asked what evidence was presented against the Chief Minister, Kuzhalnadan failed to provide a clear answer.
Mathew Kuzhalnadan MLA released the documents presented in the Vigilance Court regarding the monthly payment case in a press conference. He claimed that these documents supported the allegations he had previously raised and implicated the Chief Minister and his daughter. It was revealed that the mining of 24 acres of land purchased for black sand mining would not proceed due to intervention from the tourism department, following CMRL's tourism project submission.
Despite two mining applications, the district-level committee, chaired by the collector, denied permission and referred them to the government. The Land Board secretary instructed the company to submit a new plan based on the Chief Minister's directive, leading to the submission of the tourism project. Renu Raj was appointed as collector to facilitate approval for this project. Kuzhalnadan also called for an inquiry into potential corruption in the new project proposal.
