THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the face of widespread protests by labour unions, Transport Minister KB Ganesh Kumar has given in to modification in the driving test reforms. The number of driving tests per day at each centre was raised to 40 from 30.
Out of 40 tests, 25 will be for new applicants and 10 will be for those who have failed the previous test. Five will be set aside for those going abroad for study or work. If the specified number is not reached, the learner's license should be given to those who expire first.
Six months will be allowed to use 15-year-old vehicles for tests and up to three months to install camera inside the vehicle. The current road test will continue till the test track is established to implement the modification. The amended circular will be released today.
On Friday, Additional Transport Commissioner Pramoj Shankar held a discussion with the representatives of driving school organizations. Driving tests was suspended yesterday due to the protest.
