KOCHI: The young woman who confessed to killing the newborn in Panampilly Nagar revealed to police the ghastly ways employed for the murder. According to the police, the woman killed the baby by suffocation. Immediately after giving birth, the woman put a cloth in the baby's mouth. Death was ensured by tightening the shawl around the neck. The woman had no predetermined plans but panicked when her mother knocked on the door. This made her throw away the baby wrapped in the parcel cover to the nearby road. The woman also told the police that she tried to commit suicide in panic.

On Friday midnight, the young woman was interrogated along with her parents by the police. A detailed statement will be reported today. The woman currently undergoing treatment at the hospital will not be brought before the court because of her post-partum physical disabilities. The police will seek judicial custody only after her health condition improves.

It was yesterday that the 23-year-old woman from Panampilly Nagar in Kochi gave birth to a baby boy. The childbirth took place inside the toilet of her apartment which the other family members were not aware of. After suffocating the baby to death, the woman threw the baby to the road from her apartment balcony. The woman in custody has been charged with murder. The arrest of the woman, who is currently admitted to the Ernakulam General Hospital, has also been recorded. The woman had stated that she was a victim of sexual assault.
