THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP state President K Surendran on Saturday spoke against the state government's decision to increase electricity tariff.

"Charging an additional Rs 19 as surcharge in the electricity bill is like robbing the people. The people are already struggling with an increase tariff and this tax buden is being imposed on them," Surendran said.

"Unannounced load shedding is taking place in the state. This is a measure that gives hell to people during extreme heat. Locals are protesting strongly against this scam in the name of control. If it goes like this, people will get their hands on KSEB," he added.

As electricity consumption reached a record high yesterday, local electricity control measures is being implemented from 7 pm to 2 am. Regulation is mainly for businesses and shops.
