KOZHIKODE: A man was arrested for stealing AC's copper wires and cables worth Rs 1 lakh from a hotel in Engapuzha, Thamarassery. The arrested has been identified as PS Shahanad (26), hailing from Puthuparambil in Kakkad. The arrest was made by a team led by Thamarassery DySP in Thiruvambadi.

The theft took place at the hotel on the night of March 4. An investigation was conducted focusing on the unclear images captured on the CCTV, but no further information was obtained about the accused. Subsequently, the police got a clue about the accused from examining several CCTV cameras in Thamarassery, Kunnamangalam and Kozhikode.

Police said that Shahnad had been convicted in several theft cases in Kozhikode, Wayanad, Malappuram and Thrissur districts before this. He was hiding near Mangalore in Karnataka after the theft in Engapuzha. He was absconding and was caught by the police as soon as he reached Kozhikode. One more person from Puthupadi is yet to be arrested in the case and the search for him is ongoing. Shahnad was remanded by the Thamarassery court.
