THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Coastal areas in Kerala are witnessing high tidal waves while some houses suffered damage due to the Kallakadal phenomenon. Strong sea storms occurred in Anchuthengu, Alappuzha and Kodungallur where the shore regions are now occupied by the expanding sea.
In Poonthura, many houses were inundated by seawater in the surprise high tidal waves that lashed the shores. Following this, the occupants of three houses were evacuated and shifted to relatives' homes. The sea attack is also severe in Thrissur’s Kodungallur taluk. On Saturday at 10 pm, the 10th ward in Alappuzha Thrikkunnapuzha village encountered a similar sea attack with water getting into some houses adjacent to the sea.
Meanwhile, an orange alert continues on the Kerala coast following the Kallakadal phenomenon. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has warned that there is a possibility of high waves till midnight today. A special warning has been forwarded to fishermen venturing into the deep sea for work. There is also a warning to keep fishing vessels safe. People visiting the beach should also refrain from swimming and other water activities.
