THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: High temperature warnings are in effect for various districts until Tuesday. The maximum temperature in Palakkad district will reach 39 degrees Celsius, while in Kollam, Alappuzha, Thrissur, Kannur and Kozhikode districts, it will hit 37 degrees Celsius. In Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Malappuram and Kasaragod districts, temperatures will rise up to 36 degrees Celsius. Hot and humid weather is expected in these districts (except hilly areas) due to high temperatures and humid air.
Central Meteorological Department has indicated that high temperatures may persist in some areas of Alappuzha and Kozhikode districts today. The State Disaster Management Authority has issued precautionary instructions for the public in light of the high heat in the state.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight between 11 am and 3 pm.
- Drink plenty of fresh water, even if you're not thirsty.
- Avoid dehydrating beverages like alcohol, coffee, tea, and carbonated drinks during the day.
- Wear loose, light-colored cotton clothing.
- Use footwear when going outdoors. Consider using an umbrella or hat.
- Consume plenty of fruits and vegetables and consider ORS solution or sambharam.
- Take precautions to prevent fires, especially in markets, buildings and waste collection areas. Follow forest department instructions to avoid forest fires.
- Ensure clean drinking water and air circulation in classrooms and examination halls.
- Pay special attention to vulnerable groups such as bedridden patients, elderly, pregnant women, children and those with illnesses, avoiding direct sunlight between 11 am and 3 pm.
- Ensure safety of food delivery operators and provide adequate rest during noon hours.
- Media workers and police officers should use umbrellas and stay hydrated.
- Organizers of public events should provide shade and drinking water to participants.
- Travelers should rest adequately and keep water handy.
- Adjust working hours for construction workers, agricultural laborers, and others engaged in strenuous work.
- Provide access to water for animals and birds, avoiding leaving them exposed to the sun.
- Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles.
- Conserve water and seek medical attention if feeling unwell.
- Follow official warnings from the Meteorological Department and the Disaster Management Authority.
Additionally, the Central Meteorological Department has forecasted light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning in isolated places in Pathanamthitta, Idukki and Ernakulam districts over the next three hours, along with strong winds up to 40 km per hour.
