THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In summer, Malayali's daily electricity consumption is at an all-time high. With fans and air-conditioners running 24 hours a day, many places are experiencing power outages due to overload. Many incidents were also reported in Kerala where people gathered in front of the electricity offices to protest against the power cut.
Although KSEB officials explain that it is not done deliberately and the power gets disconnected due to overuse and through automatic system, this did not pacify the people. Even though things are like this, there is no doubt that when the next electricity bill comes, people will find it equally shocking as we have used up the electricity like that during this summer.
KSEB says that if you pay attention to a few things, you can avoid experiencing power crisis. Along with that, you can save money as well. Avoid using induction cookers, pumps and washing machines at home during peak hours from 6 pm to 11 pm. In homes and offices, the temperature of the air conditioner should be set above 25 degrees. For every degree set lower, six percent more electricity is required.
The same applies to electric vehicles. While buying electrical equipment, buy power efficient ones by checking the star label. The most energy efficient electrical appliance has a 5 star labelling. By purchasing it, you can reduce your energy usage. Checking the efficiency and aging of electrical appliances can significantly affect the electricity bill.
