RANCHI: An unaccounted amount of Rs 25 crore was recovered in a raid conducted by the ED in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand. The ED conducted searches at multiple places in Ranchi, including the residence of Sanjiv Lal, personal secretary of Jharkhand minister Alamgir Alam.


The visuals showing a mountain of currency notes piled up in the room of Sanjiv Lal's house, have surfaced. Alamgir Alam aged 70 is Jharkhand's rural development minister. The senior Congress leader won from Pakur constituency in Jharkhand.


Several raids were conducted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The ED is conducting simultaneous raids at nine locations including Sail City in Ranchi. The ED is also probing places linked to Virendra Ram, former chief engineer of the Jharkhand Rural Development Department.


The BJP accused the congress party of promoting rampant corruption in the state. 'Corruption does not end in Jharkhand. This money may have been kept to spend on elections. The Election Commission should take action on this,' said Jharkhand BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah.
