THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Central Meteorological Department has warned that there will be rain in various districts for five days starting today, providing relief from the severe heat in the state. Rain is expected in all districts except Alappuzha and Thrissur today. It has also been announced that rain will be received in all districts from tomorrow onwards.

- 09-05-2024: Malappuram, Wayanad

- 10-05-2024: Idukki

A yellow alert indicates a chance of isolated heavy rain defined as rainfall between 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.

In addition, as part of the Black Sea phenomenon, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Center has issued an orange alert along the Kerala coast and the south Tamil Nadu coast. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Center warns that due to this phenomenon, there is a possibility of strong sea storms caused by extremely intense waves measuring 0.5 to 1.5 meters along the Kerala coast and south Tamil Nadu coast until 03:30 pm today.

Fishermen and coastal dwellers should exercise caution as there is a possibility of storm surges.

Precautionary measures

1. Adhere to the instructions of authorities and avoid danger areas as rough seas are likely to intensify.

2. Ensure that fishing vessels (boats, trawlers etc.) are securely moored in harbours. Maintaining a safe distance between vessels can help prevent collisions. Ensure the safety of fishing equipment.

3. Completely refrain from beach trips and sea-related activities.

4. Beaches should be closed to the public until the warning is lifted.

5. Small vessels in areas adjacent to the Kerala coast should refrain from venturing out to sea for fishing from bays and estuaries until the warning is withdrawn as the sea conditions will be rough.
