MUVATTUPUZHA: Police have arrested a youth who murdered his elderly mother to obtain her gold chain. The deceased is Ernakulam Ayavana native Kousalya (67). The police have arrested Kousalya's son Jojo in the incident. Earlier, it was believed that Kousalya died of a heart attack. Upon conducting an inquiry based on the doubts voiced by locals, it was eventually discovered that she had been murdered.

Kousalya was found dead inside her house at around 7.30 pm on Sunday. It was her sons Sijo and Jojo who informed the locals and relatives about her death. The locals and neighbours initially thought that she died of a heart attack. Soon, panchayat member Rahna Sobin asked a doctor from Kalloorkad Primary Health Centre to arrive at the spot to confirm the death. During the subsequent examination, it was found that Kousalya did not die of a heart attack. Following this, the locals informed the police.

Several bruises were found on Kousalya's neck and other body parts. On Monday morning, the police took Sijo and Jojo into custody and interrogated them in detail. Jojo confessed to the crime during the interrogation. Jojo told the police that he committed the murder to obtain the gold necklace worn by his mother. The police later found the gold chain hidden in the toilet of the house.
