MALAPPURAM: Malappuram Ma'din Academy became the centre of attention by providing fruit and juice to children appearing for NEET in the burning sun and an AC hall for parents to relax. Parents accompanying children who come to write competitive exams struggling to find a spot to sit outside the exam centres is a common sight. Security personnel and others intervening without even allowing them to use the available facilities is also common. When the authorities of Ma'din Academy in Malappuram decided to change this, the hearts of those who appeared for the NEET exam were filled. 1,632 students appeared for the NEET exam at Ma'din Public School and Ma'din Polytechnic College. This was the centre where the maximum number of students appeared for the exam in the state.
2,986 people including parents had come to the venue. A parenting guidance class was organized for parents to discuss their children's further study opportunities and educational futures while the students were appearing for the exams. Parents were happy to attend a useful class when they had to wait for their children's exams to be over. While tea and samosas were given to them, the students who attended the exam were given a box containing various fruits and juices. Drinking water kiosks were also set up at various places on the campus. Photo printing and facilities for printing of necessary documents were provided for the students appearing for the examination. Ample parking facilities and proper intervention of volunteers brought relief to all the examinees.
"Have seen parents accompanying their children suffering on the roadside and so on. There needs to be a change. If we set an example, others will follow."
