KOCHI: The Health Department has informed that Ernakulam district is witnessing an increase in jaundice cases. More jaundice-infected people have been found in Vengoor panchayat. So far, nearly 100 people have been diagnosed with jaundice. The District Medical Office (DMO) said that efforts have been initiated to contain the disease. So far, three people have died due to jaundice in the district.
More jaundice cases are reported in Wards 10, 11 and 12 in Vengoor panchayat. The first case was reported on April 17. The disease was found in people who used water from the common water supply scheme here. Following this, the water here was superchlorinated. Health department officials said that they have approached the water authority to repair the broken pipes and conduct inspections. The DMO has given instructions to all medical officers to take urgent action.
People should exercise caution
1. Those who get infected with jaundice should seek treatment at hospital
2. Separate plate and glass must be given to the patient
3. The patient and those taking care of the patient should not go out
4. Use only boiled water
