THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Radiation treatment at RCC, which was halted for a week due to a cyber attack, resumed yesterday. Treatment began in the morning, with 500 people receiving radiation.
Urgent technical work was completed within an hour during the afternoon break. Radiation restarted on Monday, but the software hung at noon. Engineers worked throughout the night and restored functionality yesterday morning. Variant software experts are stationed at RCC, prepared to address any potential issues.
On the 29th of last month, the radiology department's operations were halted due to a cyber hack. Over 3,500 individuals had their treatments interrupted. Efforts are underway to mitigate the crisis by expanding treatment capacity in the coming days. GE and Variant software companies along with RCC's IT department, collaborated to resolve the issue.
The cyber attack on 14 RCC servers was initially reported by Kerala Kaumudi. Treatment was disrupted when servers hosting the radiation software were targeted. Cyber Police and IT Department's Computer Emergency Response Team recovered medical data for over 2 million people through emergency measures. Evidence of the cyber attack was gathered via computer log analysis. An FIR will be filed upon receipt of the cyber forensic report.
