THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Summer rains will become active from today, offering relief from the intense heat. The cyclone forming over Telangana is expected to move towards Karnataka, providing us with some reprieve. Kasaragod, Idukki, Thiruvananthapuram and Malappuram districts received rain yesterday with heavy rain and wind reported in Ernakulam and Thodupuzha areas.
All districts are forecasted to receive rain today and tomorrow, with some areas expecting 64.5 to 115 mm of rain. Thunderstorms and strong winds are possible. After four days, the intensity of the rain will decrease. There has been a 67 percent reduction in summer rainfall so far.
Punalur experienced 40-degree heat yesterday. It surpassed Palakkad for the first time since April 20. Palakkad recorded a temperature of 39.7 degrees, while Thrissur Vellanikkara recorded 39.5 degrees.
Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, and Kozhikode districts are under a heatwave warning today and tomorrow. By the 10th, the highest temperature in Kollam, Palakkad and Kozhikode districts may reach 39 degrees and in Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, Ernakulam and Thrissur districts, it could reach 38 degrees.
Today, high waves of 0.5 to 1.4 meters and rough seas are expected along the Kerala and South Tamil Nadu coasts as part of the black sea phenomenon.
