VENJARAMOODU: Several services of the KSRTC couldn't operate at the Venjaramoodu depot on Thursday after some drivers took unannounced leave after learning that a breath analyzer test was being conducted. Six services, including the bypass services, which generate good revenue, were called off. The depot officials told Kerala Kaumudi Online that there will be a drop of around Rs 1 lakh in the revenue. Six drivers' absence without leave was in a situation when there was already a shortage of ten drivers. Depot officials said that this would be marked as leave and reported to the superiors. Venjaramoodu is one of the best revenue-generating depots in the district.

The authorities came for an inspection this morning. After getting the information about this, the drivers didn't report for duty. It is believed that their absence was because they were sure about getting caught in the inspection. It is also known that one person has failed the test.

Recently, two drivers at the Pathanapuram depot, the constituency of Transport Minister Ganesh Kumar, were caught during an inspection conducted by the KSRTC vigilance team to find drivers coming for duty under the influence of alcohol. 12 drivers who were on duty took leave unannounced after learning about the inspection. Due to this, 14 services were called off in the morning. The problem was resolved by the addition of services from Kottarakkara depot to these areas.
