KOZHIKODE: A girl, who was poisoned to death by her father, fared well in the SSLC exams. Gopika (15), a native of Payyoli in Kozhikode, got nine ‘A Plus’ and one ‘A’ in her 10th class exams. Sumesh (42) of Ayanikkad poisoned his daughters Gopika and Jyothika (12) to death in last March. He later committed suicide.
Gopika and her sister died on the next day after the exam. Sumesh's body was found lying on the railway track near his house. The bodies of the girls were found inside the house. Sumesh's wife had died of Covid four years ago. Sumesh, who was abroad, did not return after his wife's death. The locals said that they did not have any financial problems. Gopika's sister Jyothika was a student of class 8.
Gopika was studying in Payyoli T S G VHS. 720 students had appeared for the SSLC exams here. Gopika’s friends and teachers said that she used to sing well. The team led by Gopika had secured A grade in Group Song at the State Arts Festival.
