THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert owing to the possibility of heat wave in Alappuzha district. As per IMD, heatwave conditions will prevail in various areas of Alappuzha today.
The warning is based on consecutive days of extreme heat. Temperatures could go up to 39 degrees Celsius in Thrissur and Palakkad, up to 38 degrees Celsius in Alappuzha, up to 37 degrees Celsius in Kollam, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Kozhikode and Kannur districts and Thiruvananthapuram, Malappuram and Kasaragod districts could experience temperature up to 36 degrees Celsius (3-5 degrees Celsius above normal).
IMD's rain has predicted rain for the next five days and sounded yellow alert in various districts.

As part of the 'kallakkadal' (swell waves) phenomenon, there is a possibility of high waves of 0.5 to 1.6 meters and rogue waves on the Kerala coast till 11.30 tonight and the speed of the wave is likely to vary between 15 cm and 50 cm per second, the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services informed.
