THALASSERY: The court found Shyamjith, the accused in the Vishnupriya murder case, guilty. The Thalassery Additional District Court (One) found him guilty in the case. The quantum of sentence will be pronounced on Monday. The prosecution demanded death penalty.


A Shyamjith (27) of Manantheri was Vishnupriya's former friend. The video clippings of Shyamjith coming to her house turned crucial evidence in the case. The court had asked Shyamjith if he had anything to say. The accused, who kept mum for a while, said he was innocent and that he had done nothing wrong.


Vishnupriya was killed on October 22, 2022. The body was found in her bedroom at around 12 noon. She was at her ancestral house for the funeral rites of her close relative. She came to her house to change her clothes. Shyamjith reached her house when she was video calling her friend in Ponnani. While talking she had told her friend that Shyamettan has come and would do something. The phone immediately got disconnected. He had planned to kill this friend also.


Shyamjith, who came with lethal weapons in his bag, entered her bedroom, hit her head with a hammer and then slit her throat. He immediately fled from the spot. Her mother, who came in search of her, found her lying in a pool of blood in the room. The accused was arrested in an investigation conducted.


Before murdering her, he had bought a hammer and gloves from a shop in Koothuparambu. The prosecution produced the CCTV clippings of it in the court. This was crucial evidence in the case.
