KOZHIKODE: When the authorities arrived at a shop selling chicken with its number plate hidden, suspicions arose among the locals. Upon inspection in Balusheri, Kozhikode, dead chickens were found in the vehicle, which had been brought by lorry from Tamil Nadu for sale.

The locals intervened, preventing the sale of the chickens and promptly informed the health department officials and the police. Prior complaints had been lodged against this chicken shop, suggesting a pattern of misconduct. It appears that the same group is supplying chicken meat to numerous hotels in the area for wedding receptions.

The lorry with Tamil Nadu registration was seized. Not long ago, a similar incident occurred in Nadakkav, Kozhikode, where dead chickens were discovered at a chicken shop selling at unusually low prices. Locals are demanding stringent action against such establishments, and authorities have assured them that action will be taken.

Poultry sales remain high despite the hot season due to a decrease in fish availability and a corresponding rise in prices. Currently, poultry is being sold at higher prices compared to normal festive seasons.
