THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian meteorological department has predicted the chances of heavy rains with thunder and lightning in the coming days. Currently, a yellow alert has been announced in various districts till Monday. Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts are on yellow alert today.

A rain warning for Sunday has also been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam and Idukki districts. The Meteorological Department also said that there is a possibility of widespread rain in Southern Kerala. Contrary to this, high-temperature warnings will continue in eight districts including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Palakkad, Kozhikode Kannur and Kasaragod districts.

• Move indoors immediately at the first sign of lightning. Staying in open areas increases the risk of being struck by lightning.

• Keep windows and doors closed during strong winds and thunderstorms. Stay away from doors and windows. Stay inside the building and try not to touch the wall or floor as much as possible.

• Avoid using the telephone during thunderstorms. It is okay to use a mobile phone.

• Avoid playing outdoors and on terraces if the weather is cloudy.

• Do not stand under trees during thunderstorms. Do not park vehicles under trees.
