KANNUR: Shyamjith, the jilted lover who killed his friend Vishnupriya was an ardent fan of Korean psycho-thriller movies circulating on YouTube. According to the charge sheet submitted by the police, the culprit had repeatedly watched gore scenes of murder on YouTube. Thrashing the head with a hammer and then strangulating are the often-used heinous plots in this genre of movies.

Like in the cinema, Shyamjith wriggled inside Vishnupriya’s house by removing the window grills. The killing happened in dead silence with no shriek or cries of the victim heard outside the room. The head of the victim was banged with a hammer which severed the crucial nerves. Initially, the police doubted the influence of alcohol on the culprit, but medical reports proved otherwise. It was only after conducting a detailed search that the police unearthed the culprit’s craze for psycho killers from Korean movies.

Serial killers in Korean movies tend to kill all the people they hate. Shyamjith tried to emulate this but was caught in the act. Vishnupriya, a pharmacy employee in Panoor City, suddenly ended the relationship with Shyamjith which triggered the revenge.

Another murder:

In yet another crucial detail, police have revealed the failed plan of Shyamjith to murder another youth from Ponnani, who Shyam believes to have ruptured his relationship with Vishupriya. Shyamjith was nonchalant while being taken to evidence collection and interrogation.

After committing the crime, Shyamjith went straight to his father’s hotel and engaged in serving food to customers. It was at this time that police came to look for him. Not showing any concern, the culprit ambled straight to the jeep and got seated in the back of the vehicle, shocking all.
