BENGALURU: No matter how much the world has developed, people still hold on to many beliefs. A large part of them follow superstitions. One such news is now circulating on social media. It was an advertisement placed by a family from Puttur, Karnataka. The advertisement is a marriage proposal for a girl who died 30 years ago.
The family placed an advertisement in the local newspaper to perform a traditional ceremony known as Kule Madime or Pretha Maduve. It is a popular practice in the coastal districts of South Karnataka and Udupi in Tulu Nadu. The practice involves getting the spirits of the dead to marry each other to undo the bad fate of the living. The advertisement was given in the newspaper a week ago.
The ad read 'Seeking a boy for a girl from Kulal caste and Bangera (gotra). The child died about 30 years ago. In case there is a boy of the same caste and different Bari, who died 30 years ago and the family is willing to perform Pretha Maduve.', followed by the contact information of the family.
That ad is now viral. The girl's family told The Times of India that around 50 people have already agreed to perform the ceremony. According to the report, the family is looking for a person who matches best with their daughter's horoscope.
