THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minding the outrage over the stillbirth in Thycaud government hospital, police have decided to move ahead with stern actions. The officials have asked for a report from the hospital in this regard. Postmortem of the baby will be done only after receiving the report. The family alleged medical malpractice as the cause of death. The medical college police registered a case on the complaint filed by the family of Pavithra, a resident of Kazhakoottam. It was earlier alleged that the pregnant woman was denied treatment at the hospital which resulted in the horrible incident.
It was on May 16th at 11 pm that Pavithra, who was eight months pregnant, reached the Thycaud government hospital complaining about no movement in the womb. However, according to Pavithra’s husband Libu, the duty doctor sent her back without even caring to do a basic examination. The next day, during a scan conducted, the baby was found to be dead. After this, during the follow-up treatment at the SAT hospital, the baby was taken out by surgery.
An announcement was made about conducting a crucial pathological autopsy on Tuesday to find out the cause of the baby's death. After the incident, the family filed a complaint to the police and the health minister.
Libu also alleged unscrupulous conduct from the duty doctor on May 16th when he brought his wife for examination. According to Libu, the doctor reprimanded them for enquiring about the situation.
“You already have a child so you should know how things work. Why fear this much? The baby is sleeping” This was the alleged conversation between the duty doctor and the family on May 16th.
