THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Father sat in front of medical college hospital mortuary with a coffin to protest that the body of the stillborn was not released even after three days. The procedure was completed and the body was released after five hours of protest.
The hospital authorities said that it took time to complete the pathological autopsy and to complete the police procedures as the family had complained about the incident.
On the night of 16th of this month, eight months pregnant Pavitra living in Pavitra Nivas, Kairali Nagar, Chiravilakam, Kazhakootam was brought to Thycaud Hospital as her baby was not moving. She was sent back home saying the baby was sleeping. A scan was done the next morning when she returned to the hospital in similar condition. After the baby was found dead, Pavitra was shifted to SAT hospital in an ambulance.
From the beginning, Libu, father of the stillborn, had alleged that the cause of death was a mistake at the part of Thycaud Hospital. On the 18th, the body was removed through surgery and preserved in formalin. On Monday, doctors from various departments conducted detailed tests. Autobiopsy was not conducted because the police process was not completed. This is why Libu started the protest yesterday morning. When the police arrived, the SAT authorities said that the medical records from Thycaud Hospital are yet to be received. The medical college police sought medical information from the Thycaud hospital authorities. Once it was handed over, the autobiopsy was completed and the body was handed over to the relatives at 3.30 pm.
The medical college police registered a case on the family's complaint and handed over the investigation to Thampanoor police. The stillborn was the second child of Libu and Pavitra.
There was a deliberate delay in releasing the dead body. Pathological autopsy report is awaited to know the cause of death of the baby.
