KASARAGOD: P A Salim, a native of Napoklu and the main accused in sexually molesting a 10-year-old girl at Kanhangad will be subjected to DNA testing. This is to scientifically prove the charges levelled against the accused. His hair and blood samples will be collected for testing. The investigation team is preparing to submit an application to the court in this regard. The accused is now in judicial custody while the police will soon apply to have the accused in custody for interrogation.
The special investigation team nabbed the culprit from Adoni railway station in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh on Friday. On the same night, the accused was brought to Kanhangad police station. It was on May 15th that the 10-year-old girl was abducted from her house in Padannakkad, Kasaragod. The accused was arrested on the ninth day after the incident.
As part of the evidence collection process, the accused was brought to the site of the crime on Saturday, which saw the locals simmering in rage. The locals even tried to manhandle the accused, which doubled the work of the police force and even aggravated tension in the area. With the mob getting more ferocious, the police cordoned off the accused in a vehicle.
The locals and police soon engaged in a tiff over the issue. In the evidence procedure conducted, the accused showed the police the place where he nabbed the girl and the fields where he roamed along with the girl and later molested her. He also confessed to taking the earrings worn by the girl and located the premises where the incident happened.
Hosadurga police meanwhile charged two new cases against Salim. The first case is for stealing a golden chain from a woman while in her sleep. Another is for trying to barge into a house in Punchavi to commit robbery. Salim had to run away after the residents in the house got alerted. All these details came out while questioning the accused in the Kanhangad case.
