KOTTAYAM: Another death due to lack of treatment. An elderly tribal man named Chellan of Mele Bhoothathan Ooru is the one who died. He died at Thrissur Medical College. Two days ago Chellan was found unconscious in the forest. After first being taken to Kottathara Hospital, he was later shifted to Thrissur Medical College. Chellan was shifted to the medical college from the Kottathara hospital after four hours. His transfer to the medical college was delayed due to the non-availability of an ICU ambulance in Attapadi.

Last day, a man who was injured because a tree fell on top of an auto-rickshaw that was running in Attapadi, had died after the treatment was delayed for three hours. Faisal (25), a native of Ommala, died when he was brought to the Tribal Taluk Specialty Hospital in Attappadi Kottathara. The explanation is that his transfer to another hospital for specialist treatment was delayed due to the lack of an ambulance with ventilator facilities.

Both ventilator-equipped ambulances in Kottathara have been out of order for months. An ambulance was brought from Ottapalam and Faisal was taken to Vattambalam Hospital in Mannarkkad but could not be saved. Relatives of the injured patient and the hospital authorities had waited for the ambulance for more than three hours. The incident today was followed by this.
