candles

NEW DELHI: It is an age-old tradition to blow out candles while cutting the cake for birthdays and other events. Recently, a type of sparkling candle has become available in the market. Many people buy these and put them on cakes.

Kids always clamour for these beautiful candles on top of the cake while taking videos and photos. These are known as 'anar candles.' However, a video is now circulating on social media claiming that these candles are harmful. The video was shared on the Instagram page 'ashu.ghai.'

In the video, an anar candle is lit on top of a white paper. Anar candles contain compounds of iron, copper, zinc, aluminum and magnesium. These elements are converted into oxides and carbonates, creating the spark that comes out of the candle.

The video claims that these candles are harmful to health. At the end of the experiment, some black powder can be seen on the white paper. Ashu Ghai explained that when we put these candles on a cake, this black powder falls on the cake and we consume it. Ashu Ghai advises against placing such candles on cakes.
