THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: While the monsoon is expected to arrive in Kerala on Friday, the state will continue to receive heavy summer rains till then. Southern and central districts are likely to receive more rain. The heavy rain that lashed the state on Tuesday caused widespread damages. Hundreds of houses were submerged in water. Many houses were destroyed. Eight people died in the rain.

In Thiruvananthapuram, Anchuthengu native Abraham Robert (60) died after his boat capsized in Muthalappozhi. The other deceased are Alappuzha Koipally Karazhma native D Aravind (30), Ernakulam Vengoor native Eldhose (16), Kanhangad native Muhammad Sinan (16), Kottayam Chempu native Sadanandan (58), Alappuzha native Jayaprasad and Idukki Marayoor native Rajan (74). The body of Mukkolam native Ashokan, who went missing the other day after being swept away by the strong currents of the Killi River, was found on Tuesday.

Hundreds of houses in Ernakulam city, Kalamasery and West Kochi areas were flooded. Writer Dr. M. Leelavathy's house was flooded and several books were destroyed. Houses were destroyed in two landslides in Kottayam. A passenger was injured when a tree fell on a KSRTC bus in Fort Kochi. A tree fell on the bus at Cotton Hill School, Thiruvananthapuram.
