THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Landslides occurred at two places in Kottayam yesterday due to heavy rain. No casualty has been reported. The landslides occurred at Chovvur and Melukavu Kizhakkamattam near Thalanad Moonnilavu. Eight houses in Melukavu were flooded and household items were washed away. Landslides in Chovvur caused widespread crop damage. A man went missing in Manimala River in Mundakkayam. Thilakan was lost in the current.
On the Erattupetta-Vagamon road, tourists were trapped for several hours due to landslides on the road at Kallambagam. Landslides hit two plywood factories in Anjoottimangalam. Salim (Nooh-48) went missing in a stream near his house in Kollam. Night travel has been banned in Idukki hilly areas.
M Leelavathy's house flooded
Famous writer Dr M Leelavathy's house on Thrikkakara Pipeline Road, Ernakulam has been flooded and her books have been destroyed. Leelavathy was shifted to her son Vinayan's house next door. About two feet of water rose inside the house. The houses in the vicinity were also flooded. Traffic in Ernakulam city came to a standstill for a long time due to waterlogging during heavy rains.
Injured from tree fall
A passenger was injured when a huge tree fell on top of a KSRTC bus in Fort Kochi. The incident took place when the Venad bus serving the Koothattukulam-Fort Kochi route was halted at the stop. Apart from the driver and conductor, there were seven passengers in the bus. The hand of Athira, an employee of the Fort Kochi RD office, was injured. The one that fell was a century-old huge tree from a private person's house premises. The incident happened at 9.45 yesterday morning.

11 houses collapsed in Alappuzha due to strong winds. More than 2500 houses in different taluks were flooded. A fallen tree caused traffic disruption on the National Highway and AC Road. Train service was suspended for half an hour after a tree fell on the track near Kayamkulam. A tree fell on top of a private hospital building at Kattanam on KP Road.
