THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A woman died after her she fell from a scooter, hitting head-first on the road. The deceased has been identiifed as Susheela, a native of Mukkola. She fell on the road while putting up an umbrella while sitting on the back of the scooter. She is an employee of a hotel in Kovalam. The body has been shifted to Vizhinjam hospital and will be released to her relatives after post-mortem.


Meanwhile, Thiruvananthapuram, which has been on orange alert, has been inundated by heavy rains for hours. Water inundated in various places in the city after the Amayizhanchan canal overflowed. Houses and shops were flooded in various areas of the city like East Fort, Thampanoor and Gowreeshapattam.

There was waterlogging in Thampanoor, Thekkummoodu, Pazhavangadi-Power House Road, Muttathara TB Road, etc. People left their houses in areas with flooding.

Apart from Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi is also receiving heavy rain. Kalamassery area got flooded again during the rain. There is also waterlogging in Moolapadam. The Indian Meteorological Department has warned that there is a possibility of widespread rain in the state. As per the updated rain warning, orange alert has been declared in seven districts of the state.

Orange alert has been issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki districts. A yellow alert has also been announced today in four districts namely Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram and Kozhikode. A yellow alert warning has also been announced in 11 districts from Thiruvananthapuram to Kozhikode tomorrow. Due to the influence of monsoon, there is a possibility of heavy rainfall in the state.
