THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister V Sivankutty has said that adalats will soon be held in three regions to resolve the issue of unpaid teachers in schools in the state.
The adalat will be divided into Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode regions. Secretary of General Education and key officials will participate in the adalat along with the minister. Minister V Sivankutty was speaking on Kaumudy TV's weekly interview program Straight Line. First priority will be given to teachers teaching differently-abled students. The minister pointed out that more than 13000 teachers are working without salary for up to ten years in the aided school sector alone.
"This happens due to negligence of the management. Some people do not get a salary because they do not get approval without sufficient appointment documents. The Chief Minister directly intervened in this matter. When the DEOs were asked to study and submit a report on the issue, each of them found problems and refused. It was after this that it was decided to hold an adalat," said the minister.
Muslim League's claim has no basis
The Minister said that the Muslim League's claim that there are no seats for Plus One students in Malappuram has no basis. "There are 80,250 seats. The total number of applications received is only 74,805. In the previous years, 5,446 and 4,300 seats were vacant respectively. It is not practical to say that the children should study the subject of their choice in their panchayat or else school should be allowed. That is the argument that the League is making" Shivankutty alleged.
Minimum marks are required in SSLC exam so as not to fall behind in higher exams. There is no going back on that decision. The minister said that the open book system of writing the exam with the book open will not be experimented here. The interview is available on YouTube. It will be broadcast on Kaumudy TV tomorrow at 8 pm.
