THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains are likely to lash the state today. The Central Meteorological Department has informed that there is a possibility of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad in the next three hours and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 kmph.
Orange alert has been issued in Ernakulam today. Probability in isolated areas is predicted. The weather department has defined heavy rainfall as rainfall of 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm in 24 hours. Yellow alert has also been announced in four districts. Yellow alert is in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Idukki and Wayanad.
A yellow alert has been announced in Kannur tomorrow and in Thrissur the next day. Yellow alert has been sounded in three districts on Wednesday. The rain warning is in Alappuzha, Ernakulam and Idukki.

The National Center for Oceanography and Oceanography (INCOIS) has informed that till 11.30 tonight, there is a possibility of 1.1 to 1.5 meter high wave and storm surge at Kerala coast with a speed varying between 40 cm and 65 cm per second.
1.2 to 1.6 meter high waves and rough seas are likely to occur along South Tamil Nadu coast till 11.30 tonight. Fishermen and coastal residents should be careful. As the rough seas are likely to intensify, they should stay away from the danger areas as per the instructions of the authorities.
