In a recent interview promoting her latest film, Guruvayoor Ambala Nadayil, actress Rekha opened up about her early days in the film industry and her experiences working with the legendary actor Mohanlal. Rekha shared that Mohanlal is the reason she is still fondly remembered as Meenukutty by her fans.

Rekha revealed that she entered the acting field with no prior knowledge of cinema. "I acted with Lal sir after completing my studies. I was a person who did not have any kind of experience in cinema. I would go to locations with my mother and simply follow the directors' instructions," she said. Rekha marveled at seeing her performances on screen, despite her initial lack of confidence in speaking Malayalam fluently. Her only experience dubbing her lines was for Suresh Gopi's 'Chinthamani Kolacase', where she delivered a mix of Malayalam and Tamil.

Rekha praised Mohanlal's unparalleled acting skills, stating, "Lal sir is a complete actor. He is not called so for nothing. Sir can act even with his eyelids and watching him inspires his co-actors to perform better. Before a shot, he would joke and laugh with everyone on location, making us all laugh. Lal sir behaved like a child on set, but his performance during the shot would leave everyone amazed."

Rekha emphasized that her standout performances in 'Dasharatham' and 'Aye Auto' were largely due to the guidance of the director, producer, and Mohanlal. "Lal sir is the reason why I'm still known as Meenukutty," she affirmed. Reflecting on 'Dasharatham', her favourite movie, she shared a memorable incident: "I was not married at that time. There is a scene where I had to hold a child but the child would cry when I picked it up. However, it wouldn't cry when Lal sir held it. I was jealous of Lal sir for that. Most of the time, we travelled to the location by train and people would compliment me for my acting. Then Lal sir would tell them that 'she has won a critics' award for her acting.'
