kerala-muthalapozhi-death

CHIRAYINKEEZHU: With boat capsizing and sorrows turning into a daily phenomenon, protests are changing colours to go more intensifying in Muthalapozhi. One person died and another was injured in two separate accidents on Thursday. The first accident took place at about 1 am on Thursday which claimed the life of a fisherman. The boat's engine, net and fish were all lost. The damage incurred would be around Rs 16 lakh.

The second accident happened around 5:30 am. While going for fishing, the boat capsized due to a strong current. Stalin (52), a native of Anchutengu Thonikadavu, suffered injuries on his hand and is currently being treated in hospital. ‘Patros Sliha’, a boat owned by Stalin, was involved in the accident.

The fishermen say that they requested the help of a marine enforcement rescue boat immediately after the accident, but it was not available. This is the third death and the 13th accident this year in Muthalapozhi.

A rally will be organized today at 4 pm in Perumathura under the leadership of the Welfare Party. Due to the negligence of the authorities, Muthapozhi has turned into a ‘harbour of death’. Since the construction of the causeway in 2006, more than 70 fishermen have died in countless accidents and damages worth lakhs of rupees have been caused. The rally is being organized to demand a permanent solution to these continuing worries. Various social and political leaders will participate in the meeting.
