TIRUR: A 60-year-old woman, Asya, wife of Punnassery Kunhalavi Haji, passed away from a heart attack on her way to the hospital after learning that her nine-year-old grandson, Muhammad Sinan had been trapped in an automatic gate. The tragic event unfolded on Thursday evening when Sinan, son of Punnassery Abdul Ghafoor, became stuck in the gate of a neighbour's house.

The accident occurred as Sinan attempted to take a shortcut through the relative's property to reach the nearby mosque for prayers. The house was unoccupied as the family was abroad and it is believed that Sinan's neck became trapped when the gate accidentally closed. He left home at 3:50 PM and was found by passers-by around 4:10 PM, stuck in the gate.

Despite immediate efforts, Sinan's injuries proved fatal. The news of her grandson's tragic death caused Asya to suffer a fatal heart attack en route to the hospital. Both were cremated side by side in Chilavil Juma Masjid.
