CHERUTHURUTHY: About 10 stones were found lying on the railway tracks close to the bridge near Vallathol railway station. Due to the timely intervention of the loco pilot of the train going from Thrissur to Shornur, a major accident was averted.

The train, while going over small stones noticed the difference in sound. A team headed by SI AV Manoj Kumar and a team comprising Palakkad Special Branch SI Ayyappa Jyothi, CPOs Anil Kumar and Manikantan reached the spot on the basis of the information to the Railway Police.

It is reported that some time before this, the children of Cheruthuruthy School were seen playing on the bridge and when the local residents intervened, they ran away. The police and local residents are of the opinion that the stones were placed on the tracks by these school children.
