NEW DELHI: President Droupadi Murmu in the joint session of Parliament said that the government is committed to preventing examination malpractices including NEET and will make competitive examinations flawless. The president’s condemnation of the emergency in the speech angered the opposition, while 'Manipur Manipur' chants filled the hall when the president was lauding the development of North Eastern states.

The President said that the new government's first budget will include major economic and social announcements and historic measures.

“Competitive exams and government recruitments should be transparent. Strict punishment will be ensured for those guilty of leaking the question paper. Strict rules have been implemented to control examination malpractices. Reforms will come in all areas of the examination process” - said the President. At this time, the opposition scoffed at the government by chanting ‘NEET NEET’.

Opposition had used the constitution as a weapon to attack the government during the oath-taking ceremony and minding this, the government replied in the same coin by condemning the emergency during the Congress era, which shook the foundation of the constitution. The Speaker on Wednesday and the President on Thursday condemned the state of emergency imposed by former PM Indira Gandhi.

The President said that the Emergency was a direct attack on the Constitution. "The government tries to make the Constitution not only a tool of governance but also a part of public consciousness. That is why November 26 is observed as Constitution Day." The President also pointed out that with the abrogation of Article 370, the Constitution has come into full effect in Jammu and Kashmir.
