NEW DELHI: Reliance Jio, the country's leading mobile network provider, has increased its mobile tariff. Reliance Jio, which is the most used in the country, has been increased by 12 to 25 %. The new rates will come into effect July 3rd.
Changes have been made in the rates of data, phone call and combo plans. There were reports in January this year that the rate hike would come into effect after the Lok Sabha election results. Ahead of the rate hike, the companies had informed the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India that the rates currently being charged are causing huge losses for the services they are currently providing.
Jio's 24 GB annual plan, which was priced at Rs 1559, will see an increase of Rs 340. The new rate is Rs 1899. The Rs 2,999 plan with 2.5 GB per day will increase by Rs 600 to Rs 3,599. Meanwhile, 5G services will be unlimited on daily data plans above 2GB. After Jio, leading companies such as Airtel, Vodafone-Idea (V) and others are also preparing for a rate hike.
A report by global brokerage firm CLSA has already indicated that 2024 will be the year of tariff hikes. The last major increase in mobile tariffs was in 2021. In some circles, companies have revised their tariffs in the prepaid segment.
The stand of the companies is that there is a need to increase the income received from the customers. Companies are also of the opinion that more investment should be made to improve the service.
