CHENNAI: A thief robbed a house and then left a note seeking apology. The incident happened at Meignanapuram in Tamil Nadu. The theft was at the house of Chithirai Selvan (79), a retired teacher. The thief left a note saying that the stolen articles will be returned in a month. Selvan and his wife live in the house.

In June, the couple had gone to Chennai to meet their son. They had arranged Selvi, a maid to take care of their house in their absence. When she came to the house on June 26, found the front door opened. She immediately informed Selvan and the police.

The thief was found to have stolen Rs 60,000, 12 grams of gold jewelry and a pair of silver anklets. When the police reached the spot and searched the house, they found a letter believed to have been written by the thief.


'Apologizing, I'll return all these in a month. One person is sick in my house and stealing all these to meet the medical expenses,’ the note said. The note was written in Tamil with green ink on an envelope. The Meignanapuram police have registered a case and an investigation has started.
