KOLLAM: Aishwarya (27) did not give up even though her husband tried to kill her by pouring petrol and setting her on fire. Seeing death face to face, she was in intensive care in the hospital for two and a half months. Still, she was not willing to give up. Today she is not just Aishwarya. She is Adv Aishwarya Ashokan. Junior High Court Advocate, with first-class distinction in LLM examination.
Aishwarya is the daughter of K Ashokan and V Shalija. Even when she was in the hospital with 40 percent burns, she had only one desire... to complete her LLM. MG University's LLM exam result came last day.
Aishwarya was brutalized by her husband in the second semester. Aishwarya came to Bharat Mata School of Legal Studies in Aluva after a gap of five months after undergoing plastic surgery at a hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. Teachers, friends, family members, lawyers and former MLA P Aisha Potty stood by her.
She got married to Akhil Raj, a native of Kottarakkara, in 2016 while she was studying for LLB at SN Law College, Kollam. In 2019, when their son A Adeeswar was one and a half years old, the two separated. Aishwarya shifted to her own house, passed LLB in 2020 and started practising in Kottarakkara court. In 2021, she joined for LL.M. She started practising in the High Court last March.
Day of attack
Aishwarya was attacked by her husband when she was returning on a scooter after appearing in court on December 17, 2022 in domestic violence case. Akhil Raj, who followed her on a bike, stopped Aishwarya near Neduvathoor Agro Junction, poured petrol on her and set her on fire. Aishwarya was admitted to the hospital by the locals who came running.
