THODIYOOR: Abdul Salam (39), a resident of Thodiyoor Puliyoor Vanchi South, died due to shock from a broken power line. The accident happened today around 1:30 p.m. when he went to pick up the fallen coconut leaves in the backyard near the house. After Abdul Salam did not return, his wife Shamna and sister Nadeera went to look for him. That is when they came to know about the incident.

Nawaz, a neighbour who came running after hearing their screams, was electrocuted while trying to wake up Abdul Salam. Vishnu, a pandal worker, reached with a bamboo stick and removed the electric wire that was entangled in Abdul Salam's leg. He was taken to the Karunagappally Taluk Hospital, but could not be saved.

Locals said that although the KSEB authorities had been informed earlier that the areca palm in the yard where the accident occurred was rubbing the electric line and there was sparking, no action was taken. Abdul Salam is the son of Yunusu Kutty and Zainaba Beewi. He was in the Gulf. He recently came to the country for treatment. Abdul Salam's children: Fatima, Adia and Alia.
