KORATTY: Thieves allegedly broke into Prakashan's house in Chirangara's Chembakassey and stole 35 sovereign gold and Rs 8,000 on Sunday midnight. The burglars entered the house by breaking the window bar at the back of the house.


The jewelery was kept in a lunchbox which was kept in a bag and then in an almirah. An iron pickaxe used to break the window bar was found at the spot. The pickaxe was taken from a house under construction next door.

Chalakudy DYSP R Ashokan led the investigation.

After a two-day journey, Prakashan, a retired railway official, reached home at 3 pm on Sunday . Both of them went to bed early due to

exhaustion. No one else was home. The woman who lived on the top floor of the house was also unaware of the theft. The thieves also tried to break open their door.
