THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains and misery continue in various districts of the state. In the wake of rain, the District Collectors have declared a holiday tomorrow in Kozhikode, Wayanad, Palakkad, Idukki and Alappuzha districts. The holiday is applicable to all educational institutions including professional colleges, Anganwadis and tuition centres. However, the holiday is not applicable for pre-scheduled exams and PSC exams. In Wayanad district, Model Residential (MRS) and Navodaya Schools are also exempted from the holiday.

There is also a warning of heavy waves and storm surge in six districts. The National Oceanographic Research Center has informed that the coasts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts are likely to experience 2.8 to 3.6 meter high waves and sea surge till 11.30 pm on 18-07-2024.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Center has informed that there is a possibility of 2.9 to 3.1 meters high wave and storm surge along the Kanyakumari coast on 17-07-2024 till 08.30 am. A possibility of Kallakadal (well surge waves) phenomenon and high waves on Kerala coast and Tamil Nadu coast on 18-07-2024 till 11.30 pm has also been informed. Fishermen and coastal residents in these areas should exercise special caution.

Precautions

  1. As rough seas are likely to intensify, residents should evacuate from danger areas as advised by the authorities.
  2. Keep fishing vessels (boats, boats, etc.) safely moored in the harbour. Keeping a safe distance between boats can avoid the possibility of collision. The safety of fishing equipment should be ensured.
  3. Avoid trips to the beach and activities at sea.
