GURUVAYUR: The complaint that the gold locket bought from the Guruvayur temple was fake has been proved to be false.
Ottapalam Ambalapara Cherumussery Karuvanthodi Puthanveettil Mohandas filed a complaint with the Devaswom Chairman. He was summoned to the Devaswom Governing Body meeting yesterday.
Devaswom Appraiser K. Gopalakrishnan checked the locket and confirmed that it was gold, but the complainant refused to believe it. Later, it was checked at a jewelery store in East Nada and it was confirmed that it was gold, but the certificate was requested. A certificate was given that it was gold after the inspection at the institution in Kunnamkulam confirmed it.
Mohandas, who later reached the Devaswom office, told the media that he is yet to believe that it is gold. He went to three places in Palakkad district to pawn the locket but found that it was not gold.
Worried that the locket would be changed after he left, the Devaswom administrator informed the police. When Guruvayoor ACP TS Sinoj, SIs P. Raju, P Krishna Kumar and others arrived, he changed his position saying that he had made a mistake and was certain that the locket was gold. He also apologized for the trouble caused to the Devaswom and the devotees.
On May 13, Mohandas bought a gold locket weighing two grams for Rs 14,200. Mohandas and locket were taken into custody by the police after registering a case on the administrator's complaint that they had tried to defame the Devaswom. The police are investigating whether there is an ulterior motive behind his move.
