THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government announced financial assistance to Joy, the sanitation worker, who died while removing garbage from Amayizhanjan Canal. The cabinet has decided to provide a compensation of Rs 10 lakh from the chief minister’s relief fund to the mother of Christopher Joy, who died. Meantime, Mayor Arya Rajendran said the corporation will construct a house for his family. The house will be built with government’s permission after finding land under the leadership of the MLA.


Meantime, the march staged to the corporation by the youth congress protesting his death, had turned violent. The protestors tried to topple the barricades. With this, the police used water cannons. The protestors also tried to enter the corporation through the back gate. When the police tried to stop them, it turned more violent.

The cabinet also announced an amount of Rs 6 lakh to Sobichan Abraham of Poovarani in Kottayam, who lost the materials stored to construct his house, in the landslides and heavy rains. As his land was unfit for habitation, the amount was sanctioned from the chief minister’s relief fund, to buy a suitable place. The financial aid was sanctioned to him, as it is landslide prone area and also construction activities were prohibited in this area.
