KOCHI: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is all set to present the first budget of the third Narendra Modi government. Kerala has great hopes in various fields. One of them is a railway station adjacent to the Nedumbassery airport, which has long been a necessity for the people of Kerala and Kochi. It is expected that there will be an announcement regarding this in the budget.
In the current situation, if you want to reach Kochi airport, you have to get off the train at Aluva or Angamali. But many trains do not stop at these two stations, so many hours are spent on the journey. Things become more difficult when the traffic on the road increases. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Kerala unit has raised this demand of the state before the central government.
If a railway station comes near the Kochi airport, it will be beneficial for the expatriates as well. As the airport used by all the districts of Kerala for travel, the state is also interested in fulfilling this demand. Along with this, the center is facing the demand of direct flight service from Kochi to more countries.
Starting service from more countries will increase the potential of benefiting Kerala's tourism sector as well as Ayurvedic traditional treatment sector. At the same time, what will be the stand of the Railways on this issue will be crucial. Kochi airport is 14 km from Aluva and 7 km from Angamaly. The problem faced by the railways is that more trains will have to stop when the new station is constructed.
