KASARAGOD: Police have arrested a woman accused of extorting money from a man through a matrimonial site. Shruti Chandrasekar (42), a native of Chemmanad, was arrested from a secret centre in Udupi. She was arrested in a case of scamming gold and money from a man who is a native of Poinachi. The police informed that the woman was scamming people through a matrimonial site. It is indicated that many police officers have also been scammed by Shruti.

A man who was scammed had filed a complaint against Shruti on June 21. With this, the police conducted a vigorous search for the absconding woman. Kasaragod district court had denied Shruti's anticipatory bail application on Friday. This is how the scammer woman was caught. After recording Shruti's arrest, she will be produced in court.

Shruti was conducting the scams by befriending the men who contacted her after she posted on the matrimonial site that she wanted a groom. She used to demand money and gold from these men. The police informed that there are many similar cases reported against her. Shruti had befriended the complainant through Instagram. She introduced herself as an ISRO employee and produced some fake documents to prove this. Later, one lakh rupees and one sovereign necklace were scammed from the complainant.

Earlier, Shruti had filed a complaint against an SI of Kerala Police in Mangaluru for allegedly sexually assaulting her. She complained that she was assaulted in a hospital. Shruti had cheated many by saying that she was an ISRO and Income Tax officer.
